Electricity storage via adiabatic air compression Publication details Publication details

The results of the National Research Programmes “Energy Turnaround” (NRP 70) and “Managing Energy Consumption” (NRP 71) are summarised under the title “National Research Programme Energy”.

This synthesis “Electricity storage via adiabatic air compression” summarises the results of three projects:

  • The joint project “High-temperature combined sensible/latent-heat storage based on novel materials for electricity storage using advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage” (January 2015 to December 2018) supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation as part of the National Research Programme “Energy Turnaround” (NRP 70).
  • The work on adiabatic compressed air storage supported by the Commission for Technology and Innovation and Innosuisse as part of the Swiss Competence Centre for Energy Research “Heat and Electricity Storage” (phase 1: January 2014 to December 2016, phase 2: January 2017 to October 2019).
  • The "Grid-to-grid" project supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (October 2017 to June 2019).

This synthesis is based on the results from the research conducted in the aforementioned projects. It therefore does not make any statements on aspects that were not researched within the framework of these projects even in cases in which these aspects would be important for providing an overall view.

Responsibility for the results of the research projects lies with the respective research teams. The synthesis “Electricity storage via adiabatic air compression” is the responsibility of the authors. Their assessments and recommendations for action do not necessarily have to correspond to those of the members of the NRP 70 and NRP 71 Steering Committees, the Swiss National Science Foundation or the research teams.
